The Sanguis paintings reduce the arch to a single red vertical bar suspended over abstracted landscapes of sky, sea, earth, and mind. This form exists in tension as both column and window, anchor and rupture. The vertical measures, marks, connects, or severs, forcing the viewer to make meaning.
